No one really cares any more about the 'problem related' 2.7 as you say that is until it breaks down (maybe).
Yes 912Es are nice cars but in the end it's a 911 body with a VW bus engine. There are some that love them, some that hate them. My suspicions is that they will always hold where they are, trailing 911s of the same year by a little. I don't think it will be a take off in prices. In peoples minds it will always be a car with a 911 body equipped with a VW Type IV engine. It isn't a 911. It wasn't meant to be as it was a 'stop-gap' car here in the USA before the 924 came out.
As an investment I wouldn't. As an investment in fun I would.
Of course this means nothing if you have something like Christians car that has all books, records, etc. There will always be cars in another class.
I just don't hear people say 'Oh, I really want to get myself a 912E' But then again I might need to get out more often...
