Untrue. This is easily explained. Now that no one knows how to build anything or fix anything and anyway most stuff can be thrown away and replaced with new stuff, dude's want to at least look capable of doing/ repairing and looking useful, like times of old. Hence the beard thing, as in:
"My Great-Grandfather had a beard and built his own house so I have a beard in order to look like I could do the same etc."
I don't have a beard. But I find it puzzling why these guys all want to look, kinda, the same...
