Good going techweenie. To me its also about value and comparing cars at the level you can afford. I am good with a Boxster or Cayman at base price but have seen many with 25k plus of options. That puts them up against different opposition for your dollar. I would rather a base no option 911 than a Cayman loaded up with options for similar prices which as discussed don't really add much to the experience and cause the car to depreciate much quicker.
Funnily enough I was looking at buying a new M4 and the dealer has a bunch of 435i's in stock for more than a base M4. I would rather order the base M4 (6 weeks)and get a much better and less depreciation than get instant gratification on the lot
