How could I? I saw him no less than a 100 times by the time I was in my early 20's. His brother Phil was pretty damn good too. I'd hang with him at the clubs back in the day. I was seeing Otis Rush, Lefty Dizz, Son Seals, Junior Wells, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Albert King, Stevie, Lonnie Mack, Robben Ford, Albert Collins... You get the idea, saw pretty much anyone that lived in town or came to town. 3 guys I wish I would have seen back then Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, and Luther Allison. A band that blew me away was Booker T and the MG's with Anton Fig on drums. Was lucky to live in Chicago and be into the blues. Had to go at it alone usually, since I didn't know a whole lot of people hard core into the blues.
Hell, I'm going to see Chuck Mead Thursday night. Will be seeing Larry Carlton next month and another show featuring Donald Kinsey.
That Chess set is an excellent recommendation. I'd like to recommend something very recent.... "Common Ground" Dave and Phil Alvin sing and play the songs of Big Bill Broonzy
