Keep the original lid AND the ducktail to sell with your car (if you ever do).
You put the lid you want on the car now, and let the future buyer decide what they want on the car. This is a great selling point. If the buyer doesn't want it, or negotiations get too low- then you can always sell the tail separately. Switching lids (especially between two that are painted and FIT) is an easy reversible project.
My 78' ppo (previous previous owner) did the car as a " carrera look"- carrera stickers, tail, etc. The PO wanted a more original look so he went back to a stock lid- but he kept the decals?!?-too scared to pull them off. He sold the duck. As a buyer, I really wished he had of kept the ducktail, for I kind of want to play around with one (I kind of like the fun of the carrera look thing- and also appreciate stock- but the PO's decision has left the car somewhere "inbetween" but I don't have the time right now to go through the trouble of buying/fitting/and painting a new duck, or removing the decals for that matter)
Anybody have a good white duck?
