I just removed the decals from my car. They'd been on since a repaint about 32 years ago, and as expected a ghost image was visible due to the rest of the paint having a "suntan". I ended up color sanding the whole car and that worked to removed the ghost image. A little scary to take sandpaper to your car though.
As far as the duck or not for the OP, I prefer the clean look on the SCs of the original lid. I'd say change it out and see if you like it better stock. It's easy enough to go back and forth. When you go to sell it put whatever lid on that will make it sell faster/higher. Right now that would be the original lid, but tastes can change over time.
