What properties of an oil (excluding "higher mileage"oils), might cause leaks to slow

What properties of an oil (excluding "higher mileage" oils), might cause leaks to slow or stop?

I am not referring to a change from a pre-existing synthetic, but instead switching to something like Kendall 20-50 from a regular oil. Since the switch, I have had a leak stop/slow. What's the theory here?

Thanks
