A rather fun and "different" thing to do with the family would be to bike ride the Withlacoochee trail. It's a rails to trails that is near Inverness. It has multiple trail heads, so you could pick an appropriate distance or location depending on what else you would like to see. Very beautiful country, very peaceful way to spend some vacation time with your family.
