Compared to Ferrari or Maserati parts today, used 928 parts aren't bad. I've seen used 16 valve engines as low as $650 in Hemmings and 32 valve engines in the low teens.

Bought the Miura for $7500 in 76. Painted it, did some some aluminum work and cosmetics. Drove as a daily driver for two years. Spent $34.00 on parts and lots of time on maintanence. Was tough to get $11k for it in 78. I agree that was a lot of money back then, but I got less than that in a real clean high mileage 89 928 S4.
