BASF does have a much better method of selecting the correct shade, PPG has whats called variant decks. Not all colors list alternate formulas and I find myself going outside the manufacture on occasion, as with my Porsche. As for the sprayouts, I have found doing them on certain colors gives me peace of mind and allows me to dial in the right air pressure. I looked up code 354, PPG offers 2 formulas actually sprayed in the deck and 1 designated for the "M" series cars. BASF has a lot more to offer in that area.
