I've traveled with my kids and I was on my own. Sometimes all three but most often with my son who is the youngest.
He's now 18 and he's been to a lot of different places. He came to live with me he was 8.
Honestly a hug goes a long way to fixing most things and the things it can't fix well you need to improvise. Like stopping what you're doing and actually talking to them.
Also... When your kid interrupts you watching TV I've found it's a really good idea to just mute the TV and listen.
And there is nothing on the boob tube that's more important than your kids so just use that button and do your job as a parent.
I can understand why the woman gave the kid the phone because that's exactly how my ex used to handle the girls.
One time my middle daughter got upset and jealous about the presents my eldest daughter got for her birthday. Instead of dealing with it properly my ex takes her out and buys her a guitar.
When I expressed concern about what happened to my ex she just fobbed it off like it was nothing. I do not miss her.
