When I lived in Pinellas County, I made the same observation - lots of oddball stories in FL. One article I read was of a couple just below there, maybe in Sarasota? I'm not sure if my memory is 100% accurate (20+ years ago) but basically, he was old enough to be her father ... and after being a couple for a while, they discovered that he actually was her father. IIRC, supposedly they didn't know when they got together.
Then there was the 20 something man who married the 90 something woman in SE FL. It was "love", not money.
