Was visiting a cousin in Tennessee. We picked up some chicks and took a drive to thru the Smoky Mountains. Most of the road followed the river.
Stopped at a scenic turnout and saw an albino snake sunning itself on a rock out in the river. Just because I don't like snakes, let alone a freaky looking all white albino snake, I threw a rock at it and hit it. The *(*&@#$ thing charged at us with it's mouth open. Very unnerving.
Same drive, on the highest peak of the Smokey Mountains, Clingman's Dome I found a single eagle feather.
On a 50 mile hike in Arkansas while in Boy Sprouts stepped across some rocks and between the rocks was a Rattlesnake. Without even thinking I immediately shot it in the head with the 22 rifle I was carrying. It didn't even have time to shake it's rattle at me. We got to taste rattlesnake for dinner that night and later tanned the snake skin.
We were carrying because the area we were hiking was overpopulated with bobcats and park rangers were paying $75 each. We had some bigger cats go thru our camp one night, but never saw even one bobcat.
