I saw a lot of Olympic pools when my girls payed water polo. I saw several contraptions for lifting the handicapped in and out of the water. They all used water (hydraulic) pressure to do so. My assumption was they were afraid of any A/C motors etc near the water. And they were very simple machines.

Many of the disappearing deck pools I've seen make me, too, wonder about all the mechanics, and how much of them are both hot and wet while the pool is in use? Perhaps they've figured other means. DC?
