Sometimes 'better' isn't better. It depends on what you want and need. My Porsche is a hobby car, like 99.999% of the other cars represented on this forum. As such, the value of it to me is the fact that I can tinker on it, because it is simple enough that I can keep my mistakes down to a low(ish) level and still keep it running.
Sure, fuel economy and emissions considerations will shape future cars under production, but mine isn't under production and that's its saving grace. If I wanted a super-complex and very fast car I'd get something new, but my old 911 goes fast enough to get me into plenty of trouble as it is. I don't want a car that I can't understand.
