New 911 owner (maybe) by Wednesday

Wish me luck folks. I've been a 1987 924S owner for the past 2 years... but this week (maybe Wednesday), there's a good chance I'll be taking the plunge and buying a 1977 911S Targa (with rebuilt motor and gearbox). I've been thinking about this for several months now, so this is not a sudden decision.

I drove a few older 911's before this car. One was an 82 SC that had lots of top end, but not much around town at the lower RPMs... too expensive for me though Also, I drove a 78 SC that, if anything wasn't much faster than my 924S. Tired engine maybe? Anyway, the 77 with the rebuilt 2.7 really moves. Its lower and mid range are especially strong... which surprised me somewhat, since the engine is smaller than the SC's I drove.

Anyway, the body and (cloth and leather) interior are in great shape... and the roof does not seem to leak (amazingly enough)... but the previous owner spent some $$$ getting the whole roof and seals redone. A few minor details here and there: passenger door handle knob missing, etc. ... that type of little thing.

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, as I say goodbye to the water-cooled forums, as I'm trading my 924S in on this car (I'm getting the 911 from a local Porsche mechanic that I've known and dealt with for a few years).
