I'm sorry this happened to you. It's hard to get over being violated this way.
You said you were, "Surprised by a man with a pistol." I'm wondering how having a gun with you would have helped this situation. It sounds to me like if you were carrying a pistol in this situation you would have lost your money, your phone, and your gun.
