For all the disbelievers in BBC HP, this month (coincidentally it seems), both Car Craft and Chevy High Performance magazines (yes, I know heresy or something like that) both have dyno tests on the big block.
CHP: 540 ci = 785hp/644 ft lb $9000.00
CC: 476 ci = 911hp/683 ft lb $13,000.00 (yikes, but that's as run, complete carb to pan)
700 hp these days isn't that hard to come by anymore for the big block.
All you have to do is figure out how to get it to hook up.
