Exactly. Being dead set on the Navy is not a bad thing! He doesn't have to compormise though.
I walked in with excellent ASVAB, told them I wanted Advanced Electronics, they tried pushing several different rates at me and I told them "no ticky, no washy".
After MEPS they tried pushing me into Sonar and Nuke and I held my ground. Got the rate and the type of duty I wanted.
To do that I ended up on delayed entry for ten months until the timing was right for the A School billet to line up with everything I had to pass before that. I also, got that ten months added to my time in grade. I was nearly a year ahead in pay when I entered Boot as an E3.
