I walked in with excellent ASFAB, told them I wanted Advanced Electronics, they tried pushing several different rates at me and I told them "no ticky, no washy".
After MEPS they tried pushing me into Sonar and Nuke and I held my ground. Got the rate and the type of duty I wanted.
To do that I ended up on delayed entry for ten months until the timing was right for the A School billet to line up with everything I had to pass before that. I also, got that ten months added to my time in grade. I was nearly a year ahead in pay when I entered Boot as an E3.

Smart man. I've never been in the Navy but I've heard plenty of apocryphal stories of recruiters telling guys that they're going to be flying the jet or driving the boat and they wind up in underwear laundry.
