The recruiter is giving you a line of BS - big time.

He needs to fill his quota and do what looks good on his record - those are his orders. NO WAY someone who signs up as a cook can transfer specialty as he describes.

There are many, many stories of this that go like: "Hey, I was supposed to be a... ...that's what the recruiter told me! " followed by "Tough luck, son - you're an adult and that's what you signed up for. Your country needs you to be a [insert menial job you don't want here]. Tough luck and make the best of it."

I was supposed to be able to go AD or AM, but I ended up an STG.
