I have not been involved with any recruiting for many years now. Led pretty much summed it up though. If it isn't in the contract it never happened. I think it may be possible he wants to get in right away, I.E. no delayed entry program or as soon as possible to boot camp. If that is the case a culinary specialist (cook) may be the only opening.
My kids joined the Army. Reason? the Navy had too long of an entry delay for the fields they wanted. My youngest son is going to try a green to blue (Army to Navy) conversion when his contract is up.
