From researching a while back on SSI's for my 83SC...I think the thick flange with extension tube in to head is the 80-83SC version and the thick flange without the extension in the head is the 84-89 Carrera version.. Seeing as how the "new Dansk SSI's" don't come with the O2 sensor bungs installed, which I don't think you need on your 77, sounds like the 84-89 version is what you need... But I would think John Walker would be able to verify this for you if you asked him.
Either way good luck...I keep teetering of the fence about getting some SSI's for my 83.. But just got too many other projects before even seriously diving in to this one.
