Sorry to hear of your pup's misadventures, G. Not that it makes a difference now, but that crunchiness you felt is called crepitus. It was from air bubbles under the skin. In your dog's case, it was probably from washing the wound out by the vet. Not a big deal and not unusual after irrigation. But there are also times when it can be the sign of a very bad and aggressive infection. Given your dog's situation, it wa probably the former (irrigation) and not the latter (infection). But had there not been a washout (just the bite) and if that crepitus was also painful/tender, then there would have been more cause for worry. Best of luck with your canine buddy.
