Just saw this on the nightly news (CBS of course).
Quote:
RICHMOND, Va. -
A U.S. Marine and the bomb-detecting dog he served with in Afghanistan were reunited Wednesday morning in Richmond.
Jared Heine now lives in Louisiana, but he and his mother walked up the steps outside the Virginia State Capitol to see the black lab named Spike.
After leaving Afghanistan, Spike became a member of the Capitol Police K-9 Unit. Heine's mother used social media to track him down.
“We would clear the routes for the patrols every day, for the Marines. We found a couple of IEDs. Unfortunately, we did have three of 'em go off on us,” Heine said. “So he's been through a lot. Same as me. So I'm just happy to be here with him again.”

The linked story says Spike was going to stay with the Capital Police but on the news just now, he was given back to Heine.
