I hope they find a suitable replacement (like Oliver, not Wilmore). No matter who they find it won't be the same; but, that doesn't inherently mean worse (the Tonight show sure seemed to survive Carson).
As to the politics of it, Stewart tends to put at least one half-attempted jab at the current admin in each show. Is it as scathing as his attacks on Fox and the Bush/Cheney Admin? No. But, it's far more evenly balanced than some other info-tainment out there (Fox and MSNBC).
Personally, I'll miss the back and forth between him and O'Reilly. They certainly don't see eye to eye on much (hehe - Stewart's short); but, their debates never degraded to name calling as it seems is so common when opposing figureheads are on a show together.
