A great question. My answer keeps growing! I have made a game most of my life to make my money go further than most. It is a good game. Some folks go crazy and eat top ramen all day while they have millions in the bank. A little balance helps. Here are some of the top items that I have used / done. All have been good choices:

Never had a payment other than mortgage and student loan
DIY remodels in realestate
Work ethic
Never give up even when you get kicked hard

Saved wife's income, maxed my 401(k) IRA, and lived well under our means
Buy used cars for cash
Low maintenance wife!
Decide my exit strategy for all largish purchases before I buy
Research the market and buy well - a friend laughed and said recently how I always manage to buy things "right." I do. Patience and research.

You get the idea. It really is a series of lifestyle choices rather than one thing.
