My friend at work had one he purchased used in 2012. Like you said - great engineering that is overly done. Built like a tank.
Unfortunately, he was involved in a front-end collision with it just yesterday. Car is probably totalled, but it saved his life - he walked away. Which is what those W140's are designed to do - keep their occupants alive.
