I was raised in a house with cats so my cat-fu is strong.
Yes, they don't spew unconditional love like dogs do (I love dogs too) .
Like many things in life you get out of a relationship with a cat what you put into it.
Having said that they also have distinct personalities.
We have:
Chrisy = Maine Coon mix, the aloof princes... she has her moment when she will accept affections but only on her terms... try to pet her when she is not in the mood at your own risk. She is momma's cat, wife can pick her up and hug her anytime... me, not so much.
Lily = Flame point Siamese mix papa's girl, cubby love bug, sleeps in bed with us most nights, will put her nose in your face while you are sleeping and MEOW! Used to play fetch but seems to have retired from that.
Marshal = Also a mix breed but he has the markings of some special type of breed, I picked him out of the box, I wanted a boy because they are more whacky... he has not disappointed (zooms around the house for no apparent reason)... he will sit next to you for a minute on the couch or bed but he is always in high alert mode... wife is afraid he is not very affectionate but he is just young and I think he will mellow with age.
