To be honest I'm not entirely sure about your situation, however, it does sound as if it is only the clutch plate.
Ours is actually a C4 also, and these engines aren't complicated to take out. Think it took my dad roughly 1/2 day to pull the engine out, granted that was pulling it out from the wrecked body. Sorry I can't offer more help.
