I've had a B5 30v Quattro for 11yrs now. It's been a great, reliable and capable car as I moved around the country. Added a tow hitch and used it as a truck... they get a bad wrap for the aftermarket parts that are complete crap but super cheap - primarily the front control arms (outer uppers) and the generic coil packs. If you're wrenching on your own then learning a crap parts lesson is no big deal... I can now swap all front control arms in about 2hrs in the driveway. Don't buy aftermarket coilpacks. Don't buy the cheapest control arms you can find.

“Of the value traps, the most widespread and pernicious is value rigidity. This is an inability to revalue what one sees because of commitment to previous values. In motorcycle maintenance, you MUST rediscover what you do as you go. Rigid values makes this impossible.”
