911 Targa/993 Coupe RSR project, The Hulk! Need help

Hi!

My name is Petter (located in Sweden) and I have been working with my 911 project for two years now and I thought it would be fun to share the progress here on Pelican in order to get feedback and helpful tips to get it out on the road again (Sponsors are also welcome to support the project)!

Please excuse my English, Swedish is my native language…

Five years ago I finally bought my first 911, a SC coupe from -88. Red with black interior, It was a childhood dream coming true! After updating it to the looks and feel that I wanted I decided to try to get hold of an 911 project car. My plan was to go bananas with wide fenders etc. but I didn’t exact know what I was looking for although the 993 GT2 always been a dream car to me and to be able to build something similar to that would have been great. I love the raw look with the bolted fender flares

So the search started through different channels to find a project car with the right price. Sweden is a rather small country but with a strong Porsche club (4th largest in the world I think) so I started to send email to every Porsche owner that I heard had a car standing in the garage. After some time I got contacted by a guy that had a car that might be the one for me!
I jumped in the car and after a two hour drive I was arriving at the garage. The seller and I than drove out to the countryside where the car (or more like a shell) was standing in a barn on the floor with no wheels or suspension mounted. Without any electricity in the barn, totally dark outside and -10 degrees inside it was not the best conditions to look at a car… After some discussion and looking through the boxes of parts we agreed on a deal. The gay selling the car mounted some parts on the car to get it more or less movable so that I could pick it up a couple of weeks later.

The car itself started its life as an 911 Targa from -83 but got hit it the rear and where bought by a company that specialized in body repair on Porsches. They took a 911 Coupe from -85 with turbo specification that have been smashed in the front and joined the rear part and roof from that car with the front part of the Targa. In that process they also mounted rear fenders, thresholds, front beam, rear beam and windshield wiper panel from a 993 (all new original Porsche parts). The project then stopped, the company went out of business and the car was sold to the guy that I bought it from (who decided to sell it after a couple of year since he had a 911 and a 993 and no time to finish this project)

For me this was what I’m been looking for, a 911 that I didn’t have to feel guilty for modifying instead of restoring. Pretty soon I took the discussion to go for the 993 RSR look since the car had the narrow rear fenders and not the Turbo as the GT2 is based on, in the front the GT2 and RSR is the same. A huge amount of parts where missing, it was/is a big challenge for me to find all the parts and keep the costs down.

So now to some pictures and I will update with text and pictures until I am up to date to where I’m in the progress today.

First a picture from previous owner, this is how the car started its life:

And this is how it looked when I got it in to the garage the first time:

With a lot of parts inside the car:

After a wash and up in the air it looked much better. After inspection I found out that the car was 99.9% rust free! First challenge was to find and fit all the body panels, doors etc.
