One thing for sure, there is a LOT of "art" that is 100% crap or worse. Just like pornography, it is difficult to describe, but I know it when I see it.
The soul has nothing to do with it. If the machine is just looking for every possible permutation of a possible answer and picking the one it matches to a solution it is not really intelligent. Deep Blue beat the very best of the best human Jeopardy players. Try to get it to figure out how to pick a good color to paint the room to match the decorations.
