This is what I am am seeing also.
Many of the new buyer's of 911's (1965-89) or not looking for track weapons or canyon carvers, they already have Boxsters, 99something, etc. for that.
The new buyers are looking for a classic Porsche, that shape and air cooled, to show, Blvd. cruise, collect, tinker with. 911's have become the new classic Porsche displacing 356's, which have been moved to the antique category.
So many of the old rules do not apply anymore, like Cabs and Targa's are worth less than coupes.
It is the new world order.
