A tip for anyone going charter fishing in Hawaii, the fish belongs to the boat unless otherwise agreed to. Got to discuss it at the time of booking to make sure you get some fish to take with you.

Funny I know. Comes from when charterers would come to the islands in slow transport with no way to get the fish home in good shape.

This the profit on some boats for the crew. So got to work it out up front.

I once was crewing on a boat in kona. Went out with one guest aboard. Had all four lines go down at once. We landed three large ahi. 600lbs of prime fish. Would have really cut the value of one to cut it. So the captain offered the guest a dinner out on him to keep the fish intact. Big fun fighting those fish at one time. The untended one got off.
