fatbikes- At first sight, I laughed but have met a few hardcore riders with them. They explained as not to replace your fleet but is specialized and extra workout. I forget what they had but mentioned cost $2-3k! Way out of my league and wants. If had one though, probably wouldn't be using one in the summer but more inclined to winter on snow hardpacked trails, frozen lakes - as depicted.
The CF fatbike at the swap meet mentioned above was trick. The seller lowered the price a $1,000 to ($2,500 net) but still way too rich for me. Deceiving how heavy it looked but was actually crazy light. Had a very wide shaped carbon monocoque frame. The one concern on that machine was how thin the layers probably are and what happens if you dink it?
