Enough damage for inurance company to write it off. Perhaps airbags deployed. Its all just a numbers game. Many times cars get R title just because the body shop is pricing out new OEM parts which can be rather excessive in cost.
I'm sure the seller isn't telling the whole story, but at that price who cares. Great deal in my opinion.
