Ok I checked with US Customs. I called Canada Customs first and they knew nothing about the US side wanting to see the title or check the cars before they left the US side. Canada Customs then gave me the phone number of US Customs.

US Customs said they do want a copy of the title faxed to the port of export (where the car is leaving the US from) 72 hours before the car leaves the USA. They then want you to stop at the port of exit (US side)so they can check the serial numbers against the car and the title.

Then the process is the same as I described above for importing it in to Canada.

You learn something new every day.

I had a lengthy discussion with both Customs offices about the 3 cars I have imported.
