Actually when you live in a rural area, you probably have enough on hand to last a while. We have a pantry with non perishable items, a ten thousand gallon water tank, propane, etc. Lots around here have get away bags or packs ready to go if need be. Almost everybody has an assortment of arms and ammo in stock. My get away bag is my back pack with some survival supplies, 1K rounds of .22 for hunting small game, and some larger caliber to reach out to longer distances if need be. I figure we can survive in place for some time, but there will come a time (in an extreme scenario) when you have to move and start living any way you can by any means you can.
