When comparing the G96 996 Carrera gearbox to the G97 Aisin, they are very comparable. I personally like the Aisin better because the gearing is superior.
Porsche guys sometimes stumble at the thought of the Aisin because it is Japanese, not German. But Aisin has been the oem on such powerful sportscars as the Supra Turbo and RX7 turbo, as well as numerous other models like Miatas, WRX/STI and a majority of the Japanese grocery getters. They are the Japanese Getrag.
