Morgan found Abraham's map to DC in Gabriel's church with a note to Rick Grimes on it, so he knows that Rick might still be alive and that he's headed to Washington. Just by coincidence, the Wolves (or whoever they are) might also be headed north, and Morgan was following them when he stumbled onto the church. This group, and Morgan too, might be using vehicles as well. Rick's group was wandering on foot for a while after leaving Noah's place in Richmond, so that might've given Morgan enough time to close up the distance between them. After Morgan's brief appearance earlier in this season, I can't help thinking that he'll be inserted back into the story at some point. Then there was that street sign seen in Alexandria...

I don't read the comics and I'm just speculating here, but there are other happenings in this show that don't really add up either. Anything's possible...it's the zombie apocalypse!
