Just FYI. I asked a PA Game Commissioner about shooting a coyote if it threatened my dogs on a walk. He said you can shoot wildlife in defense of self or property, so yes you can shoot a coyote to protect your pet. But a shooting in self defense requires an investigation. However you can hunt coyotes 24-7, and do not need to wear orange. So as long as you carry a hunting license (can carry in your wallet) and shoot with a legal firearm (no semi-auto pistols or rifles), you're hunting, and it is ok to shoot a coyote and not notify the Game Commission.
