had a tense moment today....

On my way home from the shop today, I was stopped by a patrol car, at the moment I had no clue why. As I said I was on my way home from the gun shop that I work at, so of course I had my 1911 tucked under my arm in it's shoulder holster under my coat. I have never been stopped while armed and of course I have a CCWP, but never the less you never know how this is going to go. Amazingly all my training for CCW came into play automatically. I pulled far off the roadway enough that he did not have to be concerned with traffic, shut my motor off, turned on my flashers, rolled down my window, and waited for him to approach with my hands on top of the steering wheel. He approached, we exchanged greetings and he asked for my license and registration. I took this as my opportunity to say to him. "Sir I am armed and I am licensed to carry a firearm how do you want me to proceed?" and waited for his reaction, albeit nervously. His reaction was a calm as he said "OK". I asked if he wanted me to produce my weapon, never using the "gun" word trigger. He said no and I gave him my drivers license, CCWP, and registration. I then asked what I was being stopped for. He said for having an expired inspection sticker on my van. yeah I know, my bad, I just forgot to get it done. I told him I honestly thought I had it done and that I must have just forgotten, and that I would get it done tomorrow. He and I exchanged in conversation about it and he then gave me back all my stuff and said " Get it done. have a nice day". I honestly think we were both a bit relieved and my CCWP got me a free pass.
