If newer is more desirable, then there is no compelling reason to buy an air cooled 911 at these prices. 996's, and to a lesser extent 997's, are very cheap right now and offer a certain type of enthusiast a huge amount of comfort and performance at comparatively modest outlay. I've driven 996's and 997's and they are very nice cars.....for my tastes, almost too nice. At semi legal speeds, they don't thrill or challenge like an old air cooled does. I did a tour (with a bunch of Porsches) with my daughter and at one point she hopped into a guys 997 Turbo. The road was a twisty affair with many gear changes. At the next stop she got back into my 85 and told me the driver had the stereo going and didn't bother to manually shift the PDK. They had a very nice conversation at normal volume. In my car (at the same speed) it was a real fun and challenging drive. I think someone can argue that by that logic, a model "T" would be even more entertaining LOL....but I think most guys on this board would know the difference. If a guy is after lap times and comfort alone, the market has made the choice as easy as possible. Cheers
