3.6 conversion throttle linkage return

I'm a new owner to this 930 with a 3.6 conversion, the previous owner or maybe the builder (I'm not sure) had a placed a return spring by the throttle linkage back by the transmission (drivers side rear area). The spring connects the linkage to a homemade fabricated aluminum tab on the trans. It works... but not 100% of the time. It does not return correctly for that last little bit of pedal. On occasion it causes the revs to hang. Picking up on the accelerator temporary fixes this. I could try a heavier spring but I have to ask...is there a better way to make or buy a throttle return spring to do this? I've read that some people put return springs by the accelerator pedal under the floor but I am unclear how to access that area. I wasn't sure if it was a good way of doing this or if there are better ways to accomplish the same thing.
