The Worksharp arrived yesterday and I got a chance to use it today.
I like it.
It doesn't equal the zen experience of rubbing steel on stone, but it puts a great edge on a knife in no time. The instructions were clear and simple and there are several youtube videos showing how to use it. I put a toothy edge on my chef's knife, which gets used to chop vegetables against a cutting board. I went to town on the slicers that don't touch much of anything but meat and put a shaving-sharp edge on them. I have a favorite paring knife that I thought was pretty sharp and wasn't going to sharpen, but after seeing the edge on the slicing knives I went ahead and put a razor edge on it.
The sharpener puts its own convex profile on the knife so you have to hit them all with the coarse belt to get the profile. The first time you sharpen something it can take 5 or 10 minutes.
The biggest drawback is that it doesn't come with any kind of storage container, so I'm going to have to come up with something to keep it in.
Overall I'll give it 4 stars out of 5.
