While you only need to use one cam lock tool, and remove only two tensioners to do this job, if you wanted to use both cam locks, and remove three tensioners (which would include the one under the AC), I would suggest you watch this video of the process, again noting that this is a 996, so the engine is the other way about in the car: IMS Retrofit & Procedure Overview Also note in the video that the second fabricated cam lock will need to be slightly different than the LN unit.

Vid link receives only this still shot- no problem. I have only 986 experience- not any other Porsche, please pardon am unaware of 996 versus 986.
Just seems that the location to use one lock only would be same side of engine as the tensioner is on. That would place the cam lock on front of engine closest to passenger seat as viewed from the rear of car.
All pictures show the left (drivers side) with the lock on, and the bank tensioner on the right (passenger side). I have hard time wrapping my brain around locking the left cam and releasing tension on the right side!
To make it simple for the brain dead such as myself- viewed from rear of the car, put the cam lock on the left and release the tensioner on the right. As well as the IMS tensioner first. Is that correct?
