These pieces occupied the vertical section of the "B" pillar but not sure if he had to do this all the way around the perimeter of the opening - just can't remember. I remember him saying that these strips were very thin and that they were probably not needed for the structure of the car - only for the seals.
This procedure is required to expose the slots that the pop window brackets fit into on the "B". Aft, for the latches, he had to tap the (3) holes hiding behind the headliner. The rest seemed fairly straightforward to do.

I started this on my 83SC tub (project shelved for the time-being).
Correct, it is only a small vertical strip to be removed. I ground through the spots on the strip - no inadvertent drilling into the b-pillar. If memory serves, it was only about a dozen spots only on the b-pillar itself.
There are two slots that become exposed for the hinge/tabs on the window frame. The plates are in there inside the b-pillar but do need to be tapped as was mentioned.
One thing I'm not sure about is if there was a plate inside the C-pillar for the latch. I seem to recall there are only 3 holes in the pillar sheet metal but not plate in behind.
This is as far as it's progressed.
I was sure I had pics but can't find them. Sorry!
