Originally a 40-63, it looks like my old shooting buddy and longtime hunting partner's dad had it rebored to .45 caliber and rechambered to .45-70 sometime in the '40's or '50's. When his dad passed away, I "inherited" this rifle when I helped catalog and value his somewhat eclectic collection.
It was in very rough shape when I took possession, with the action frozen and the barrel looking like the exhaust manifold on an old pickup truck. One of the "conditions" of assuming ownership was to fix it up and take it hunting once again. I eventually wound up killing a non-typical 5x7 mulie with it. The load was the Lyman #457193 400 grain flat nose over a duplex load of 7.0 grains of Reloder 7 under 53 grains of Goex FFg. Great shooting load in this rifle.
