On my Alpine unit I installed last year, the unit slides into the chassis that is first placed into the dash. There are tiny metal pins (one on each side) at the front of the unit on the sides. These are spring loaded and they pop into a slot in the chassis. So you need a tiny screwdriver to push them in and guide them out of the slot. I remember thinking how tough it would be to figure that out if you hadn't installed it.
